This fall, Sacramento-area Sierra College is offering a community education course called “Facebook and Social Media Marketing for Small Business.” It’s a timely response to the fact that social media marketing is no longer being viewed as a passing fad.

What’s more, social media marketing is being incorporated into more and more college curriculum. Business schools, including Excelsior College in Albany, NY, the State University of New Jersey–Newark, and the Business School at Rutgers all offer courses in social media management.

With a staggering 92 percent of marketers using Facebook and 75 percent planning to place more emphasis on social media efforts in the coming year (according to a study by the Social Media Examiner), we feel it’s safe to say that the number of college and university administrators who are making room for social media studies alongside more traditional business curriculum will continue to grow.

At this point, there is little room for dispute that social media marketing is having a powerful effect over the way marketers are approaching their target audiences. We at Profile by Design are excited to see how the medium continues to grow and develop.
